Dr. Mustapha Kabba is the current Deputy Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS). He also serves as a Consultant Surgeon at Connaught Hospital and a Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences. He is a highly experienced clinician with over 18 years of practice in general surgery, visceral surgery and proctology .

Dr. Kabba began his medical career in 2004 as a Researcher at the University Hospital Bonn in Germany. Between 2006 and 2013, he was a Resident Surgeon in the Surgical Department at the same hospital where he later earned his Doctor of Medicine degree and specialized in general surgery. He was involved in providing clinical care, leading research activities, and teaching medical students. After subspecializing in visceral surgery and proctology, he held several specialist medical positions at prestigious institutions in Germany, including the Verbundkrankenhaus Linz-Remagen, and later he worked at Deutsches Rotes Kreuz Hospital Neuwied, where he rose to the rank of Consultant General Surgeon Visceral Surgery. Aside from his clinical expertise, Dr. Kabba has also held crucial administrative positions, demonstrating his leadership in healthcare.

This includes the introduction of technology such as Minimal Invasive Surgery to improve surgical outcomes in Sierra Leone. Between 2018 and 2019, he worked as a Specialist Surgeon at the Bo Government Hospital, where he provided timely and life-saving care to the people of Sierra Leone. Currently, Dr. Kabba holds the esteemed position of Chairman of the Sierra Leone Medical Board, where he is responsible for training the next generation of medics and surgeons. From 2020 to 2022, he held the prestigious role of Hospital Care Manager at Connaught Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in Sierra Leone, where he made significant transformations in health service delivery and managed national disasters. In 2022, Dr. Kabba received one of the highest awards in Sierra Leone, the Commander of the Order of the Rokel (COR). He is currently supervising the largest Mercy Ships mission to Sierra Leone, which will result in 2,500 free surgeries and training of 300 health workers, including doctors, surgeons, and biomedical engineers.

Additionally, Dr. Kabba is part of the pioneering effort to establish a dental school through the partnership of Mercy Ships. Dr. Kabba has a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) from the University of Sierra Leone, a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Bonn in Germany, and a Specialist Qualification for General Surgery, Proctology, and Visceral Surgery from the German Medical Board. He is also a Foundation Fellow of the Postgraduate College of Health Specialties. Dr. Kabba is an enthusiastic researcher who has published several peer-reviewed papers.
