Dr. Charles Senessie - A Brief Biography
Dr. Charles Senessie, a medical doctor originally from Sierra Leone, West Africa, has resided in Bern, Switzerland, for nearly two decades. He boasts an impressive academic background and extensive professional experience spanning various countries and roles. His qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma in Epidemiology from the University of London, UK, a Master of Science in Clinical Dermatology from the University of South Wales, UK, and a PhD in Health Sciences with a focus on International Health Research and Education from Trident University, USA.
Dr. Senessie is also in the process of completing a second PhD in Public Health Epidemiology from Walden University, USA. Dr. Senessie is an esteemed lecturer in Dermatology, teaching at both the Postgraduate level at the Faculty of Life Sciences and Education, University of South Wales, Cardiff, UK, and within the Department of Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, University of
Sierra Leone.
Dr Senessie’s professional journey includes significant roles such as Deputy Head of the College of Medicine admitting team at the Connaught University Teaching Hospital in Freetown, Director of Vinell Community Hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and managing a thriving Dermatology Clinic in private practice. In Switzerland, Dr. Senessie has held diverse positions, including Research Assistant at the University of Bern, Physician at the University Children’s Hospital in Basel (UKBB), and part-time Private Practitioner at Praxis Krezumatte, Bern. He has also contributed to the field as a Consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, working on various project initiatives in sub-Saharan African countries. Additionally, he served as a Physician for the Swiss
Federal Government, overseeing the regulation of clinical trials both locally and internationally.Â
Dr. Senessie is not only a dedicated medical professional but also a humanitarian. He founded and presides over the UN Economic and Social Council accredited Afro-European Medical and Research Network, a platform that unites health practitioners from the Diaspora to provide services to underserved communities throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Furthermore, he serves as the CEO of Senessie Low-Income Countries Healthcare and Consultancy Services. Dr Sensessie’s remarkable contributions have not gone unnoticed. He was honoured in the Forum of Leaders in Switzerland for his outstanding work in promoting the welfare of the Diaspora. In 2019, he received the USA International Forum on Advancements in Healthcare prestigious Top 100 Health Care Leaders Award, sharing recognition with prominent figures like Past President Obama, Rev Jesse Jackson, and Oprah Winfrey in the book titled The Most Influential Contemporary African Diaspora Leaders. Most recently, he was the proud recipient of the 2021/22 Switzerland Prestige
Awards.
