VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

RECRUITMENT OF SENIOR LECTURER IN MIDWIFERY AND NURSING FOR NJALA UNIVERSITY NEW MEDICAL SCHOOL

Position: Senior Lecturer in Midwifery and Nursing, One (1)

1. Background

The Government of Sierra Leone is implementing the Sexual Reproductive Health project funded by the Large Anonymous Donor. This project aims to improve the overall health sector development indicators through a number of interventions implemented by various implementing entities of the Ministry of Health. The Postgraduate Colleges of Health Specialties being one of the institutions for training of health specialists in medicine, nursing, midwifery and pharmacy is one of the implementing entities of this project.

In recent years before the establishment of the Sierra Leone Council for Postgraduate Colleges of Health Specialties (SLCPCHS) on 24 March 2016, Sierra Leone was spending huge amount in sending Junior Doctors Abroad on diversified specialist training in Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery and Pharmaceutical etc. The situation was very costly to the Government of Sierra Leone and its partners thereby depriving the Country of a significant quantum of human resources. As a way of meeting the health care challenges at that time, the Government used to lobby around donor partners for support with scholarships and finance. Most frustratingly, many of the trainees do not return home after completing their training. Consequently, the number of medical specialist in the country constantly reduced and became inadequate to meet the needs of the Country.
