Exciting Times for Medical Training in Sierra Leone as President Bio Inspects Newly Installed Anatomage, a High-End Imaging Equipment at COMAHS.

President Julius Masada Bio addressing an excited crowd at COMAHS after his inspection of the newly installed anatomage.

The promise of an exciting new chapter of medical education and training has been unleashed in Sierra Leone as the President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, and the Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, jointly inspected a newly installed cutting-edge imaging equipment-Anatomage at the skills lab of College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS). This innovative tech-based human table provides an incredible platform for medical students to fully understand how human anatomy works by having the opportunity to explore the internal organs in real time. It revolutionizes the way the body is visualized, dissected and studied.

According to President Bio, this new equipment will provide an invaluable opportunity for future healthcare professionals to be the best versions of themselves and be able to compete anywhere in the world.

“This advanced equipment is a clear manifestation of my vision to invest in human capital development,” he pointed out. For President Bio, there is a direct correlation between health, national development and productivity. That is why the Government, through its Ministry of Health and development partners, is investing heavily in healthcare infrastructure, education and training. Already, huge investments have been made in constructing modern-day hospitals in Freetown, Port Loko, Moyamba and elsewhere in the country.

The installation of this Anatomage is only one of many exciting things to come for COMAHS under the leadership of Dr. Austin Demby as Minister of Health. Already, Dr. Demby and team are currently spearheading the construction of a modern day teaching complex with technologically advanced learning capabilities that will promote research and innovation.

The proposed multipurpose facility being built at COMAHS.

The President was taken on a facilitated tour of the ongoing construction site of this ultra-modern facility that will house a new administrative block, lecture hall and skills lab. Upon completion, this multipurpose building will house the basic medical sciences faculty, administration, and skills lab
. It is hoped that these will significantly expand and improve on COMAH’S training capabilities.

The Minister believes that sound medical education is the foundation of a healthy nation and that the newly installed Anatomage gives students the required motivation, challenges and inspires them to learn.
In addition to the Anatomage, MoH, under Dr. Austin Demby, has facilitated the purchase and arrival of 10 CT scans, the first in this country, that will be placed strategically across different health facilities around the country.
